At home at the gym or crag, the Scarpa Veloce rock shoes offer comfort and performance to help you progress through the grades. Board-lasted design uses a stiff, supportive insole in the shoe's construction; board-lasted shoes excel at edging and offer great comfort.

Review

The first day I wore these shoes I completed three ascents that I'd never been able to do before. I bought these on a recommendation from a friend and so far they've been the most worthwhile purchase I've made. I was wearing La Sportiva Nagos before these. I know one can place too much emphasis on their gear and not their climbing technique, but seriously these shoes drastically improved my climbing. The Veloce's real strength comes out when climbing on thin edges, something about the construction of the shoe transfers your weight to your entire foot instead of feeling like all your body weight is on just one toe. And while conventional wisdom says a softer shoe is better for smearing, I don't find the Veloces inadequate for smearing at all, if anything they are a bit "stickier" than my Nagos for smearing. I hate spending lots of money on climbing gear since that means more time working and less time climbing, so the best part is that you can find these shoes on sale right now for less than $80.

The Veloce is a fantastic bouldering shoe; they excel on thin and polished edges. The rubber composition is "loose" enough that they grip exceptionally well despite having a thick and sturdy sole. If there is a weakness with this shoe it is the rate of wear, but I don't believe its any more rapid than other comparable models.

As Kellen said, this is a very nice shoe that excels in edging. You can't beat the 5mm thick rubber when it comes to thin faces that require fancy footwork.
